Let’s face it, while still professional, paper-based resumes are soooo web 1.0. But thankfully there are many great up-and-coming ways to get yourself noticed on the Internet job frontier, however, that with the advent of this whole thing they call 2.0 the paper resume will soon be obsolete. ReadWriteWeb today outlined some of the best New Media resume-related sites on the market. Including,

  • CBVideo Resume from Careerbuilder.com. A great video resume board; which also offers some helpful “Do’s and Don’ts” for the creation of a Video Resume. This is the perfect alternative for those who have thought if you could just get an interview, you could definitely get the job.
  • Secondly, also from Careerbuilder.com, is CBWorkSpace. CBWorkSpace allows you to create what is more-or-less a web page about you and your achievements.

  • To compete with CBWorkSpace, Monster.com has launched an online profile system which lets you create a personal page on Monster where you can share your skills, experience, and interests. According to ReadWriteWeb,

Monster Profiles allow you to fill out a personal summary, an employment summary, an awards/accolades section, an about me section, and a links section called “as seen on the web,” which allows you to link to other websites of note. You can even add tags to your profile to make it easier for others to find your page on Monster. However, the Monster profile page is nowhere near as rich or as visually appealing as Careerbuilder’s CBWorkSpace web sites.

  • Then of course there’s well-known site Jobster.com. Jobster is a social networking site of sorts, where you can create an online profile that includes the usual info, plus you can upload photos and videos. Like Monster, users can tag their profiles with skill tags and list links to other sites, too.
  • VisualCV is relatively new on the online resume scene and, while some have called it nothing more than Jobster 2.0, With a VisualCV account, you not only create an online version of your resume, but you can also embed photos, a portfolio of work samples, videos, letters of recommendation, charts and graphs highlighting achievements, and more.

In Conclusion:

With all of these great resume posting options popping up online, you have to wonder how much longer the paper resume will last. While you might still woo an old fashioned exec with a nice paper resume, many companies may look down on you if you don’t at least have an Internet presence too, especially in this increasingly tech-savvy day & age.
