coupon.jpgDid you know that there’s a pretty good chance that some of the media in your town might have great discounts to some of your favorite bars and restaurants available to you on their website? Yep, it’s true. Increasing in popularity across the country, online auction-style or discount coupon-style websites are popping up at media websites left and right. And they can really save you some money.

In fact, I know of two such sites right here in Maine – The Portland Phoenix has an eBay-style auction site where they auction off gift certificates, concert tickets and merchandise from local retailers at a fraction of their retail value. WPXT-TV (the local affiliate of the CW Network) has a similar program on their website called DollarSaver, where you can purchase gift certificates to local restaurants and merchants at 30-40% off of retail.

Think about the money you can save by paying $30 for $50 worth of food at a restaurant you would go to anyway. While it may not seem like much at any one time — and you do have to plan for an outing in advance (since most sites will mail you hardcopy gift cards) – if you save a bunch of money on evenings out you would be having anyway, over time those savings could really add up.

While not every medium has such a program in place, many do and more are being added all the time. Your best bet would be to check the websites of each medium in your town; I bet you’ll be pleasantly surprised at what you find.

Know of such a site in your home town? Comment and share the wealth!

Would you be interested in being a guest author on http://getprequalified.com? We would be interested in having more articles on this topic. We don’t have anything like this on the site now. Let me know if you have any questions.
